What is the difference between white and black interchangeable files?

The abrasive of white files is made of aluminum oxide, making them more flexible, soft, and wear-resistant. Black files are made of silicon carbide, which makes them harder but also more brittle.

White files have fine, rounded abrasive grains that allow processing without damaging the nail plate. Black files have sharp abrasive grains that self-sharpen during filing.

White interchangeable files have a stearate coating that prevents clogging with organic dust, while black files lack this coating. White files work better with dry nail dust, while black files perform well with wet nail dust.
